Confessions of a Third Year Uni Student - #25

This week has went REALLY fast. And by that, I really do believe that I was on autopilot or something. I feel like like although I went to class, and I took notes... I just wasn't present at all. It was very odd. I take handwritten notes in my linguistic anthropology class, and afterwards I usually transcribe them into electronic notes. This week, when I was doing so, I realized I have no idea what I wrote about. It was like I am reading someone else's notes... just very odd.

Also, another autopilot instance that occurred this week was on Thursday. That morning was a bit hectic because I realized that I left my wallet in my dad's car, so I had to figure something out with him in order to get it back otherwise I wouldn't be able to drive to class later. Anyways, after I got my wallet, I proceeded to school, and for some reason I thought it was Wednesday. So, like every other Wednesday, I was at the cafeteria watching netflix until it was time for my tutorial. All of a sudden, something told me to look at the time, and my heart just dropped. I was so confused at the time, and realized I JUST missed my entire class...

I was kind of freaking out because I was depending on that class to help me with one of my papers due on Monday... So, I asked my friends for some notes and she said they just did discussions about the readings.

Moving to just last night, I was writing my research and notes I had for my paper. Until I started to confuse myself. Don't you hate when that happens? I had a really good idea and concept that I was thought was really great. But, when I started doing the actual research and writing of the draft, I felt like it didn't relate back to what I was suppose to write about. So, I emailed my TA, and never received a response in a timely manner like I would usually.

Then, I found out the TA's went on strike. Urg. Well that was annoying to find out. So, I emailed my professor hoping she would help with my direction of the paper, although she wouldn't be the one marking it. Well, I'm not sure if she would be marking it or not if the TA's are on strike.. Let's just cross one bridge at a time right? For now, I guess I'm going to have to work EXTRA hard on my two papers due early this upcoming week, especially since the TA's are on strike, and are really no help...

I Pierce Ears!

Let's get one thing straight before I continue with this post... I don't actually pierce ears for living or for anything. Haha, I only did it once, and it was successful, and ended up looking great! I usually do not recommend anyone to do their piercings, so this post is not a tutorial. In fact, I get my piercings done professionally. This post is based on a spur of the moment kind of thing.

If you are interested, I will just share the different items you will need as well as the steps that I did. But, keep in mind, I am not a professional, and I actually followed instructions from Wiki How.

  • Sterile needle
  • Starter earrings
  • Rubbing alcohol (Hydrogen Peroxide)
  • Cork (or bar of soup)
  • Q-tips or cottons
  • Ice (2 the most)
  • Lighter
I wish I took the time to take more pictures to share with you all, but I think I was so focused in the moment that I didn't realize I literally only took 3 pictures, and they were for snapchat. I know... lame. So, I will try my best to describe everything I did step by step. It shouldn't be too hard, instructions are pretty much straight forward.

Step 1: Sterile Everything!
  •  To sterile the needle, you need to take your lighter and hold the flame under the tip of the needle for about a few seconds (I did about 5 seconds)
  • From there, I rubbed the needle with rubbing alcohol for about 30 seconds
  • We laid the needle on a tissue for about a few minutes, and then filled a mini bowl with rubbing alcohol and left the needle soak in there
  • TIP: Notice in the picture how there is string on one end of the needle? Let the string hang from the edge of the bowl to easily take out the needle without touching the tips.

  • Have your earrings picked out
  • Take a separate bowl with rubbing alcohol, and have the earring sit in the bowl until needed

Step 2: Clean and Numb

  • Wash your hands!
  • Take your Q-tip or cotton ball, dip it into the rubbing alcohol, and clean the ear lobe.
  • Take your marker and mark earlobe for the desired position of the piercing
  • Take your ice, and place it on the ear lobe until numb (this shouldn't take too long)

Step 3: Pierce through

  • In a calm manner, stretch the earlobe and pierce the earlobe with the needle
  • Ensure the cork is placed behind the earlobe for the needle to contact once pierced through the ear
  • Once pierced through the earlobe, leave in for about 2-4 minutes. While waiting, rotate the needle and clean with rubbing alcohol.

Step 4: Style it up!

  • Replace the needle with the earring
  • In the case where the hole from the back part of the lobe is a little closed, you might have to add a bit of pressure to pierce earring through.
And, thats really it! I'm not going to lie, I was a bit nervous being the one person to pierce someone else's ear because it is just a lot of pressure, and I didn't want to hurt anyone. I guess I must of done well because they only felt the pinch, which is completely natural.

Beauty Haul: Target

So, as everyone has pretty much already heard, all Target stores will be closing down across Canada. Well, doesn't that just suck? I swear they've literally come into the Canadian lifestyle just a few years ago, and now they are closing. I'll admit it, I don't shop their not the regular, so I wasn't too upset. I just felt bad for all the employees that would be losing their jobs because of this unfortunate situation!

Anyways, because Target is closing down, they are currently having a closing down sale, literally selling all items including the fixtures and shelves. Their closing down sale is up to 30%, having some items to be only 10% (not really much of a clearance sale if you ask me). But, nonetheless, I decided to check out the sales, because I am someone who is just a sucker when it comes to sales!

Fortunately for me, I went on the first day of their liquidation sale and happened to be VERY happy with my decision for going. Although the line ups were ridiculously long, almost everything was gone! And, when I went to the cosmetics section and found out that makeup was 30% off, I looked at the shelves, and everything was pretty much raided and gone! I was lucky enough to get a few of my "necessities", and I decided to share it with you all!

* Please note that I've also included a link to Target's website in case you were further interested in the product. However, please keep in mind that because Target Canada locations will no longer exists, I am sharing links for America! *

A Letter on Dates and the Like

You and I both agree that dating is difficult in itself. Yet, here we are 4 years later still "dating". Is that weird or what? To it me it is... and you know why. You're pretty much the only real relationship I've ever had. And I don't mean to sound naive but, I really do see us together for a long time.

From the start I made it clear to you that I don't care much about materialist things. I'm the one who loves the sentimental gifts, and memorable time we have even if it just chilling in sweats. As long as it just us, I'm happy.

I think its crazy to think where we started. Do you remember our first date? Haha, it was a double date with you best friend Jahleel, and his girlfriend at the time. We went to watch Fast 5 just because you guys wanted to (which I still give you a hard time for). I remember being so shy and nervous around you, even though we've been together for 5 months by then. I think it was because it was the first date I've been on in a long time, and you just made it really special.

I also remember our most recent date, this past Valentines day. You took me to Kelseys, and basically bought us a feast! We even had to take the leftovers home, and was sad when we finished those leftovers late into the night. I remember we just chilled watching Friends, and just talked all night long.

There are so many dates I remember because I am sentimental like that. Like December 10, 2010 or December 5th 2014, and SOOO many more in between those years. I appreciate every moment that we are together. And, truthfully, staying in and watching Friends is probably my favourite kind of date.

Oscars 2015: My Fave Looks + Fave Performances!

background image via
Last night was the 2015 Oscars! I think my favourite part of the Oscars is the red carpet! It is just because Hollywood stars go all out and dress very well for the event! And I have to say, this year, everyone looked absolutely stunning!

There are stars who stuck with the simple black and white gowns, yet still rocked it! And, there were stars who shined in their beautiful spring-inspired colours! Yes, those colours just make me absolutely excited for the cold to go away!

Anyways, I chose some of my favourite looks, and some of my favourite couples! Hopefully you'll agree with some of the looks I fell in love with!
The Ladies:
America Ferrera                   //                   Anna Kendrick                   //                   Emma Stone
Lupita Ngong'o                   //                   Sienna Miller                   //                   Reese Witherspoon
Sofia Vergera                  //                   Jennifer Aniston                   //                   Jennifer Hudson
My ALL TIME Favourite!
Scarlett Johansson                  //                         Jennifer Lopez                                 //                        Rita Ora
The Men:
Bradley Cooper // Chris Pine // John Legend // Josh Hufferson

Adam Levine and Behati Prinsoloo        //        Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston        //   Faith Hill and Tim McGraw

Fave Performances!
Can I start off by saying that all the performances last night were just absolutely breathtaking? I decided to share TWO of my absolute favourite performances!

Lady Gaga killed this medley! How beautiful was her voice? It was just stunning, and don't know about any of you guys, but I teared when Lady Gaga finished that performance and Julie Andrews comes out on stage! Like WOW! That was just such a beautiful moment for me!
If only I knew how to really express my feelings about this performance. I honestly believe that this was such a POWERFUL performance. It was so beautifully executed, and you could really see the passion behind the words John Legend and Common and sang. BRAVO!

Weekly Wishes #52

background image via

Happy Monday bloggers! It is that time of the week to be linking up with Melyssa for Weekly Wishes. This is a great linkup to share weekly goal and receive some encouragement from others who also have wishes/goals for the week!
Last Week's Wishes
I don't I could ever express how relaxing my week off from school has been! Last week was reading week, and let me tell you I did everything BUT reading. No regrets... for now! So yea, there isn't really much for me to complain about!
This Week's Wishes
  1. Hit the gym 4-5 times this week. I have no excuse. I'm going to have to hit the gym this week because I pretty much didn't do anything last week... so, I definitely got to shed off all the extra pounds I accumulated!
  2. Eat smarter. If I am serious about losing a certain amount of weight, in a certain amount of time, I need to stick to this.
  3. Plan in general. I find that my life is a bit more organized when I have everything planned out. I feel a bit more stressed free when I know I can accomplish something within a planned time frame.
  4. Convert Drafts to Posts. I notice I have A LOT of draft posts... some finished, some unfinished. So, I want to try to spice them up a bit to post!
  5. Study! So, I'm back at school, and I already have a test on Wednesday. Well, wish me luck! Oh yeah, and I have 2 papers due back to back next week... I really get started on that as well!
These are my goals/wishes for the week.  If you're participating and happened to hop onto my blog, leave your link so I can leave some encouragement as well! Have a great Monday, xo

Confessions of a Third Year Uni Student - #24

background image via
The picture I chose above is a true reflection of how I am feeling at the moment. I had the week off from school since it was reading week. You'd expect me to get some reading done, but I didn't. Opps. I mean... it was the first break we had since December, I really needed to just relax. So, I really didn't regret not getting much done for school.

However, I know I will regret later... Looking forward for the weeks to come, I have an anthropology midterm on Thursday, and 2 upcoming papers due - one research paper, and one psychology lab report. They are a lot of work, and as I am writing these sentences down, I am feeling the anxiety to get them both at least started.... Hmm... maybe I should actually start on that after work today.

I had a feel week off from school... you'd expect me to at least have a few shifts from work. But, it is just so weird. I only requested 1 day off (for Feb. 14), and I literally ended up not having work for the past 2 weeks. Do you know what that means? Yes, yesterday's paycheque was non-existent. How is a student like me suppose to live off of $0.00. I dunno, I guess it just means I really shouldn't spend or buy anything unnecessary until my next day.

I think being in school, and juggling a part-time job is already stressful enough. But, knowing I have to pay off school loans, and then get more school loans is just scary. Why does school have to cost so much!?

Yummy: Spoon and Fork

Last night my family and I randomly decided to go out to eat. And, because Lent has just started, and this year my sister chose to give up meat this year, my sister suggested to go out for sushi. I personally thought it was a great idea, well, you know, because it is sushi!

We had a choice between two sushi buffets to go to. Both were pretty much similar, having a restaurant feeling, but an option of a buffet. If I am not explaining it properly, then think of it like this, you are basically at a restaurant, but paying per person like at a regular buffet. We ended up going to Spoon and Fork and, you pretty much just as order as much as you want!

Since this was a sushi buffet, you already know my focus was on the food. We hard a wide array of seafoods to meat.  I enjoyed the food so much, I realized I didn't take as many pictures as I wanted... But, the place was too good, I will definitely be returning and doing another post! ;) For now, enjoy the few pictures I look!
Look how clean our table is before the food!
Wonton soup
Spicy salmon role // Dynamite sushi
Thai salmon
Tiger Shrimp
Shrimp Tampura
Salmon sashimi
Look how messy our table ended up looking like!
Like I said, I wish I would have taken more photos of the delicious food! But, I definetly will for the next time! ;)

But, What About Me?

background image via
Ask anyone who knows me to describe me with one word, and I can almost guarantee that they will describe me as selfless

To me, this can be both a good and bad thing. It is a good thing because others sees me as a people person. Someone they can confide in, someone they can ask help from, or someone they can lean on for a shoulder to cry on. It could also be a bad thing because others can use this trait for their personal advantage. And, by this I mean they can just use me whenever they please.

The best part about being selfless is that I am honestly so happy whenever I make someone else happy. I usually never have an ulterior motive whenever I do anything for anyone, and I don't hardly expect anything in return besides the simple "thank you". It makes me feel good knowing that I can make a difference in someone's lives based on the actions, including the smallest ones, I do. The way I see it, actions can go a long way. And, the way we treat others really can make a huge impact on their lives.

I guess the worst part is summed up in the question, what about me? This is exactly how I've been feeling lately. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind helping others... but, sometimes there are just those days where I need someone to put down their phones and just listen to me for once. Sometimes, I just need someone to ask me how I'm doing, or how was school. Don't get me wrong, I have Jay who does that for me, but sometimes it's not him I need that sort of comfort from. Does that make sense? I guess I mean, sometimes I want my girls to take more of an interest in my life, just like I have an interest in theirs.

I dunno. I guess this all stems from a situation that happened recently. As I keep mentioning, this week is reading week for me, and that means I have the week off from school. For the past month or so, I've been trying to plan a weekend get away with my friends. I sent them questions asking them when they are available, I sent them different links to hotel rooms with varying price, and I constantly asked for their opinions. I guess you can say I was pretty much ignored with the entire idea, and then just decided to give up on the plan. If no one else was serious, then whats the point of me waiting my energy?

So then I stopped. Then, just last week I started getting questions from everyone in our group discussion asking what we are doing. At this point I was just straight up pissed off. Like, I fully had an idea well in advanced, and I was literally ignored every time I brought up the idea. Now, with just 2 days from when they wanted to do a weekend get away trip, they were serious? It made me made, and just felt ignored. And I just made it clear to them that I don't want to be apart of whatever it is they are planning because I just wasn't in the mood to waste my time finding hotels just to be ignored again.

They eventually didn't end up going (no shocker there).

But, this situation just goes to show you how my efforts are no longer even recognized. My actions are like expected. And, it really does suck because no one realizes the amount of effort I put into everything I do. For the next few days, I'm going to try to just think about me. And, if people can't handle that, then oh well.
