Five on Friday!

Yes! Friday is finally here!  It has definitely been an entire month not participating in on today's linkup! But it's alright, we all forget things here and there. So... let's get to the good stuff!
Today I'm linking up with April, Darci, Natasha and Christina to share of my favourites from this week for Five on Friday today!
First off I wanna talk about the weekend. Boy was that a fun way to end off my reading week! Jay and I had a blast, and we went out and drank our hearts outs. It was crazy and so much fun to just let be worried-free.  This isn't an every weekend thing, no way! That's why Jay ensured that I had fun this one time I go all out. And I have absolutely no regrets for that entire night until the morning of the next day.
If you have yet to realize by now, I am a huge lover of chicken and pasta!!! So every time Jay and I go out for our weekly dates, I usually.... naw... I mean I always pretty much order Chicken Parmesan.  I think I am addicted to trying every restaurants' Chicken Parmesan and compare which one is better. I do the same thing with the fries! The fries are too good. So far, my favourite fries are from Kelsey's and my favourite Chicken Parmesan is from East Side Mario!

Jay finally got a new car and it is now officially on his driveway.  IF there are any car lovers out here in the blogging world, I'm sorry if I use any wrong terms here.  He bought himself a Honda EF four door.  He currently has be b20 vtec engine in the shop getting looked at and he is excited to finish off his built!  If I understand what he is exactly doing with his car, I will post about his project on here.. but don't expect a lot... I actually have no idea what is going on.

As you all know, I've been attempting to keep a regular routine of working out lately.  So I officially wrote down a list of what to do for each day, to make sure I keep track of what my goals really are.  First I am going to slim down just a little, and then just shape and tone the rest of my body! Summer is coming up, and if I am planning on going to live at a cabin on the beach with friends, I need to look at my summer's best! Here is a picture so far. My legs have definitely gotten slimmer, and notice my arms?? Wohoo! I'm starting to get defining muscle lines!

Lastly, my love for creating typography is getting stronger and stronger.  It is honestly such a great distraction from the stress and worry I have. And most importantly, I find it a great way to express my feelings and a pretty way.  Here is my favourite design that I was inspired to create this week.

Those are my five favourites of the week! Have a great weekend, xo!

Girls Shine Brighter

WOW! I honestly don't know why this doesn't have many views!? This video is so perfect and so empowering to us women all over!

I actually saw this commercial first on the television.  It actually took me by surprise of how emotional I got towards the end.  I was literally standing up clapping for the message that was portrayed by Covergirl.  Like it is too perfect!

Take a look. It will only take 1 minute from your busy schedule.  Go on, I'll wait!

Firstly, the media is always on celebrities asses about how they look and what they wear; and unfortunately, social media, such as Ads, carry on this pressure into society!  From makeup commercials, to even car commercials, it seems as though skinny is the standards in our society.

I would be lying if I said that I never get conscious about my body.  I am someone who didn't have the luxury of being born thin like most girls.  Yes I have boobs, and an ass... and a little love handles (don't judge me..).  I am still human, and having celebrities weight constantly being judged around the world, makes me wonder who the heck is judging me and my body size?

Watch the video one more time... Go on, I'll wait.  Did you notice that each women were different?  The fact that this video had different ethnicities, shapes, and sizes, makes it even more meaning and relatable to us all over.  EVERY single one of us CAN do something and anything!

The second thing I grasped from this video, is something personal that you've all probably experienced in a different context.  I cannot begin to tell you how many times I've joined a team/sport/organized dominated by men.  The amount of times they looked down upon my ideas is ridiculous.  I always had something to prove.

Whether it was growing up in karate, I always wanted to prove to all the jerks that I can punch harder then any of them, better yet, I can beat them in any sparing match any day.  Or whether it was in cadet, and being 1/30 females in a male dominated organization, no one ever thought that I, out of 200 people, could attain that number 1 position.

You thought I couldn't do it; boy did I prove all of you wrong.

As women we need to remember that we cannot let stereotypes define what we can and cannot do.   Absolutely not.  Why? Because Girls Can.

Thank you Covergirl for this empowering video! I will now be walking around campus with new this profound confidence! aha!

Thoughts for Tuesday: Love Others

Good morning fellow bloggers! It's Tuesday, and I have some thoughts I'd like to share with you all.  It is just a few thoughts I have about the love we have for each other.  No, not the kind of intimate love shared between two people, I'm talking about the love we have for each other.  The kind of love that that we all share with other on a daily basis.
It's a new day, I get it.  A new day filled with all these thoughts running through our minds about everything and everyone.  We all have things to do, and quite frankly, it can get overwhelming at times.  But does that give us the excuse to project our frustration and stress onto others? I personally don't think so.
During our most hectic, stressful and frustrating times, we need to remember that it is not right to drop our frustration onto others.  I'm sure it happens to the best of us.  You come from work/school late, and all you want to do is just lay in bed and relax.  But the first thing that happens when you get home, people talk to you, and you just feel so annoyed.  Just because we are tired and stressed about other things, it doesn't, and shouldn't, give us the right to snap on others.

I think it is important to remember that the way we treat others, is merely a reflections of our relation ship with God. We are all too preoccupied with our crazy lives, that we forget that God is in every one of us.  The way we treat others is essentially how we are treating God. Loving others is projected and shown through our actionsthoughts, and words.  So how we treat others not only shows our love for them, but our love for God.
Rather than projecting anger, lets spread the love.  Smiling at towards, saying please and thank you... these are really the simplest of things that show our love towards those around us.  Random acts of kinds are a great way to spread the love among our communities towards and brothers and sisters.
Have a great Tuesday! Let's spread the love and kindness towards one another!

Last Week's Wishes Recap
Last week I didn't get a chance to write down some wishes since I was off from school for Reading week; but this week I have a bunch of wishes for this week, since it is back to school I head! :(

This Week's Wishes

1. I hope I get accepted to the Nursing Program. This is probably a wish I'm going to be listing until I receive my acceptance letter. Don't get me wrong, I love the psychology program that I am already enrolled in at my current university, but I think I will have more of a future with a nursing diploma.

2. Ace my anthro midterm tomorrow! I know ... it sucks. Today we are back at school, and I already have a midterm tomorrow. The teachers should know by now that students will not be productive during their first week off from school! ... so I gotta get my act together.

3. Finish and my Child Development paper. It is due this Thursday, and I already have a 78% in this course. Trying to bring up my mark over an 80, so I am confident walking into the exam in April.

4. Sleep. I've been up way to look and partying with my friends for most of the week I was off from school. I need to catch up on my sleep so that I am able to perform well in school

5. Go back to the gym. Didn't really go to the gym this week... So I need to get back to my regular routine, and stick to it.... properly.

Wow ... writing all my wishes just makes me feel like I wasted my week off from school doing absolutely nothing productive... oppps. Well we all need a break once in a while.Well what are some of your wishes this week? Don't forget to link up!

How to Add "You Might Also Like" on Blogger

Hey bloggers! Welcome back to another edition of my blog tutorials. I am trying my best to keep this series updated weekly, so if you have any suggestions of what tutorial I should do next, please don't hesitate to leave a comment and I'll work on it right away!

A few days ago, I was asked how I got the "You might also like" at the bottom of your blog post. Since I also had a hard time figuring out what to do at first, I decided to create a tutorial for everyone who was also wondering the same thing.  I'll include pictures just in case things start to get confusing!

Step 1:

Go to LinkWithin.  The page should look something like this:

Step 2:

Fill in your information and select how many posts you want to be displayed under each post (i.e., 3, 4, or 5).  Then select "Get Widget!"

NOTE: for "Platform" select other rather than blogger or wordpress; in order to obtain the HTML code.

Step 3:

After selecting "Get Widget!" You will be directed to a new page. Copy the code given to you in the box.

Step 4:

Now go to "Layout" on your blogger homepage, and select "Add Gadget".

From there, scroll down and add "HTML/JavaScript".  A new window will open, and this is where you will paste the code you coded from step 3.

Step 5:

Drag the HTML/JavaScript gadget UNDER your blog posts!

Step 6:

Save your arrangement and view your blog! You should have "You Might Also Like" right under your posts! (Just like this one!)

Did it help? Let me know! Happy Blogging!

Twenty-One: The Meaning of Home

Blog Everyday in FebruaryHappy Friday everyone! I'm both happy yet sad that today is Friday... I'm happy for the weekend, but I'm sad my one week off from school is quickly coming to an end!

Its okay, because today I am linking up with Bailey from Anchored in Love for the Blog Everyday in February Challenge! It is day 21 with just a few days left! Join in on the fun!
So here is today's prompt:
"The meaning of HOME."
Being in my second year of university, my parents have somewhat gave me more freedom than I had back in high school.  Although I am still living at home, this freedom gives me the opportunity to find myself and find out what the heck I want for my future.  So as I am growing up, I begin to see and interpret everything differently than I once did.
Home can have multiple meanings to anyone and everyone. We all interpret things differently based on our experiences.  Home can be a literal meaning to some, while others have more of a symbolic interpretation to what they consider home.
So what is my meaning of home?
To me, home is a safe place - a feeling of both happiness and comfort.  Home is a place with a sense of belonging - it is good to know there are others who care and love for you, and that you are not by yourself. Home is with the people whom I love and truly care about.
People often say, "there is no place like home", which I completely agree.  We like feeling of being safe, and we like feeling of knowing that we belong and we are apart of a group of people who want us in their lives.
In light of my new love for typography, I drew this out for today's topic!
Don't forget to give me credit if you are ever going to use this image.
What is your meaning of home?

Falling Plates

The other night I was unable to fall asleep.  I guess it was because of all the stress and anxiety running through my mind about the things I should be doing with my week off from school.  So as I laid in bed, I decided to search for an answer.... an answer to what? I would tell you, but I didn't even know what I was searching for.

Happiness? How to stop stressing? How to fall asleep faster? I was searching, but I didn't know what I was searching for...

Then I somehow came across this powerful video on youtube that I have this strong urge to share with you all.  I found this video to be so incredible because I've never saw God's love expressed in the form of falling plates.

Please take a few minutes to watch it... I'll wait! No rush.

Powerful isn't it? Just makes you look at Jesus's love for us and the world from such a different, yet amazing interpretation. Sometimes it is so easy for us to lose ourselves in the many things/events that are going on in our waking life. It is important to relax and just look towards God, for he has the ability to comfort us from all our stresses.  How can we love others, if we are unable to show our gratitude and love for Him and all that he has done for us?
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love - 1 John 4:8

It is important to relax and just look towards God, for he has the ability to comfort us from all our stresses.  How can we love others, if we are unable to show our gratitude and love for Him and all that he has done for us?

As this video literally just takes a few minutes from your time, it can have a huge impact on everything you see or do. Let's not forget why and how we are all here today.
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus - Romans 8:1

Nineteen: Little Known Facts

Blog Everyday in FebruaryIts already Wednesday... my week off from school is going a little faster then I wanted... sigh!

Its okay, because today I am linking up with Bailey from Anchored in Love for the Blog Everyday in February Challenge!  Although I missed the first half of the prompts, I'm always up for blogging challenges whenever I come across one!

So here is today's prompt:
"Little Known Facts About You"
1. I am shy.  Yes believe it or not, I am absolutely the shyest person you'll ever meet. I am able to put up this front that I am so confident and that I don't care what others think, but deep down, I am terrified of being the centre of attention and just being over the top. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-social, I have tons of friends. And I guess it is because I feed off their energy, I'm able to step out of my comfort zone here and there!

2. I worry a lot.  No one really knows this about me because I am really good at looking well composed whenever I am in an extremely stressful position.  But I am always worrying ... literally about everything and anything. If we are walking into a midterm that I know I am not well prepared for, you will never know how worried I am because I always have a calm face.

3. I am an emotional person. No one really knows that every hurtful thing someone says to me can make me cry for hours about it. Like in number 1, I am so good at hiding my real facial emotions that everyone thinks I'm such a strong person.  But I'm not. I hate confrontation and whenever someone says something mean to me, or about me; I'm able to make it look like I care.... but really I do

4. I am a junior black belt. Surprise to hear this? I'm sure you are. I'm not one to share my achievements and accomplishments easily. I always feel like if I do, I am being a show off... so I never really tell people anything about my past. But yes, I am a junior black belt in karate since I was 16 years old. I don't practice karate no more because of an incident, but I do wish I could have continued on to achieve my black belt.

5. I am actually 5'1. Yeah... I'm short. I lie to people telling them I'm taller than I really am (even my drivers licence), but I'm actually one of the shortest in my family.

6. I am a mixed child. I am half Sri Lankan and half Filipina.  Yes, I know.. sometimes its hard to believe that I can be half brown because I look so Asian. But its always a mystery to others when it comes to my background. I'm a really shy person, so I don't ever show off a lot about myself.  I'm not saying that I'm not proud of my heritage, but I just never give myself to chance to tell others.

7. I love languages! Although I can fluently speak English and no other languages, I am absolutely in love with the other languages that are out there. I've been studying french my entire life through school, so I can fairly say that I know enough to be understood, and understand others, but I cannot confidently say that I am fluent in French. I wish I was, but growing up I never had the opportunity to grasp onto learning languages easily. I can understand Tamil and Tagalog 100% (my fathers and mothers languages), but I am unfortunately unable to speak them.

Well there you go. These are just some of the little known facts about me. I'll make another list another day if I am able to come up with more to share with you all! Have a great Wednesday!

Thoughts for Tuesday: God Is Always With You

Good morning, and happy Tuesday to all of you!

In our hardest of times, we tend to blame everything and everyone that is around us.  I am no exception to this.  I have to shamefully admit that when bad things happen, I am quick to blame those closest to me.. or worst, I tend to blame myself.

During times of struggle, it is easy to feel so alone, like no one understands what you are going through.  Its hard, I know.  Just recently I've had to experience the worst pain ever because of this cyst that I had.  I couldn't walk, sleep, sit ... I couldn't do anything.  All I could do was just lay in the most awkward and uncomfortable positions taking pain killers. It was not fun, let me tell you that.

And throughout the entire process, I felt so alone.  Although Jay and my family did the best that they could to help comfort me, I was still stuck with my own thoughts... just thinking what the heck did I do to deserve this excruciating pain?

Then sometime last week, I woke up and just saw my rosary sitting on my dresser. I immediately got a hold of it and just hold it close to my chest just laying in silence.  And for the first time throughout this painful week, I realized that God was there for me this entire time.
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10
God is always with us, from the worst of times to the best of times.  He never leaves our side.  Think of it as though he is there holding our hand, giving us the strength, every step of the way.  Whether we realize it or not, he is helping us to be brave. We shouldn't fear for the worst, because God wouldn't allow us to go through something he know we can't handle.  There's something more that needs to be learnt here.

He is not giving up on us, and we shouldn't give up on ourselves.  Going through the worst of times is the best way to learn about yourself.  You could learn how patient you are, or even how much faith you have in God and others around you.
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever." - John 14:16
Jesus is here, praying for us to our God for us to have the Holy Spirit by our side.  By us simply not forgetting about His love, and believing that he can help comfort us, especially during the worst of times, He is always saying that he will always be with us, forever.

Weekend Recap

Good Morning bloggers! It's Monday, and today I am linking up with Lisa @ Showered with Design and Bella @ Dateless in Dallas for their Weekend Recap link-up!

Because it is a long weekend here in Canada, technically my weekend isn't over yet! But this is how my weekend went:

Friday was Valentine's day! Jay and I didn't make any big plans since he was working a really long shift that day/evening, and he had work early the next morning, so we both decided that today would just be a chill day.  He however told me to stay home and wait.... wait for what? That's was the question on my mind the entire day.

So I waited and waited, and to my surprise I hear a knock on the door! I thought he got to leave work early so I was excited, but then it was a man with the most beautiful bouquet of roses. It was from Jay! So I spent the entire night taking beautiful pictures of it to post on instagram, and trying to redesign my dresser to place the flowers there. It was just a beautiful night!

Saturday was fun and just relaxing! After Jay's shift, he and I went to go watch a movie. This was completely unplanned and so we randomly decided to watch the movie we wanted to see last month - Ride Along! It was such a funny movie, I haven't laughed so hard in the theatre as much as I did was this movie!

After the movies, Jay and I decided to get dinner. Because the place we were at was a plaza, there were a lot of restaurants to choose from! We ended up choosing East Side Marios because the line up at Montana's, Kelseys, Casey's were just way to long, and we were hungry.

Eating at East Side Mario was just perfect. We got a big booth to sit in, so Jay insisted we sit beside each other rather than across. And we just had a really great time. We ate a lot, and talked a lot, but best of all, we genuinely enjoyed each other's company! It was a great night!

Afterward, we went home and just had a really low key night. It was fun and relaxing and we just watched movies for the rest of the night.

Sunday was different. Since the next day is Family Day (which is why it is a long weekend for us), my family and I decided to go out to lunch. And we went to Mandarin.  Mandarin is a Chinese Buffet that just has a huge variety of delicious food. The problem was the wait was way too long! Everyone waiting literally waited for an hour to be seated even though many of us had reservations prior to arriving.  The wait was horrible.

But after we finally got seated, I was ready to eat, and I ate a lot. I wait too long to not eat anything. It was a great time. I don't think my family has gotten along this well in such a long time. It was full of jokes, and I genuinely love my parents company!

Then I spent the rest of my Sunday just laying in bed relaxing while watching some movies.

It was a great relaxing weekend!

Sixteen: A Hard Lesson Learnt

Blog Everyday in FebruaryHappy Sunday Everyone!
I am linking up with Bailey from Anchored in Love for the Blog Everyday in February Challenge!  Although I missed the first half of the prompts, I'm always up for blogging challenges whenever I come across one!
So here is today's prompt:
"A Hard Lesson Learnt"
I'll get straight into it... A hard lesson I had to learn, at such a young age, was not to trust anybody. And when I say anybody, I mean anybody... not even family.  Wait what... family? Yes... family.
A few years ago when I was at summer camp, a long way from home, I called home to check up on my family to let them know how things were going.  No one was home but my sister, so she answered the phone and told me the most devastating news... Earlier that day, we received a yellow envelope with no return address.  Inside this yellow mysterious envelop, were pictures of Neisha and her boyfriend!
Scary isn't it? And my sister was telling me how she phoned my cousin Neisha to tell her, and she was terrified because apparently my household wasn't the only ones who received her pictures.  Turned out, family in another city received her pictures to... I was freaking out wondering what was going on... but the real question was; who sent these photos.
The rest of the summer was bad. Neisha was lucky enough to at least hide away in France, since she had already purchased a ticket months in advanced. But the rest of the summer, Ashley and I were here constantly scared to figure out what will we receive next in the mail.
One day, Neisha finally got a hold of my sister and I, and she expressed that she was pissed because she thought that we sent the photos around to family. I was so appalled and shocked wondering why she would even accuse us of sending those photos around... In a few of her photos, I was in them to, with some random guy... So I tried explaining to her that if I were to send photos, I wouldn't include photos of myself.
Anyways, one random day, we went to Neisha's place.  Us three, plus Neisha brother, were in a room... quiet. We didn't say much to each other. Then all of a sudden we hear my dad yell, "VANESSA, ASHLEY, NEISHA... COME HERE NOW!" Uh oh... when we went to the room the adults were in, there laying on the bed were pictures of me and Ashley with guys... WTF was going on?  Apparently our pictures were sent to some houses too....
I think that was when Neisha realized that we didn't send her photos around, because why would we send our own photos to get in trouble with?
Worst we ever... both Neisha and I were allowed to have a sweet 16, and we were on total lock down. I remember going to school with so much anxiety about another envelop with pictures coming in the mail. I was just mortified.
A year or so later, my cousins, lets call them Nivi and Shari, came forward to Neisha and told her the entire truth... and how it was them and their mother who sent it around to all our family members. YES, I said it correctly, OUR COUSINS and AUNT sent our photos around.
So not only did Neisha and I have to bare with the embarrassment of our entire family looking down upon us like we were a bunch of slut, but our parents.... our parents couldn't even look at us becuas ether were just so disappointed in us.
All because of what? Rumour has it that my aunt didn't want Neisha and I to focus in school so we wouldn't get accepted into university... but who knows. All I know was that my own blood went behind my back, and my privacy and sent MY personal photos. Like they literally took the time to go to walmart and make copies after copies of our pictures, and took the time to mail it out... that's real dedication to bring down their own family members.
So until this day, its hard to trust anybody, including family. I can't even feel safe posting up pictures on instagram without thinking another family member is going to save the photo and send it around the world.  I'm so afraid to even accept cousins to follow me on instagram, and be my friend on Facebook.
This is why I have yet to post up a picture of Jay and I here. I am just afraid that someone, or even family, will go behind my back, and take my pictures and send them off for everyone to see.
Crazy isn't it... how the people you love and take care of, can do such horrible things... So I had to learn, be careful what you say, and what you post online; you can't trust nobody in the real world; not even so called family

Fifteen: A Big Dream

Blog Everyday in FebruaryIt's Saturday, and I am pretty much spent my morning browsing through other blogs. It's always fun to see what others blog about, and just finding other blogs that really interest me.
Anyways, so I somehow came across Bailey from Anchored in Love.  As I was going through some of her posts, I realized that she was hosting a Blog Everyday in February Challenge!  Although I missed the first half of the prompts, I'm always up for blogging challenges whenever I come across one!
So here I am, linking up for the first time with Bailey! Today's prompt:
"A Big Dream"

I personally tend to dream big about anything and everything.  Whenever I have an aspiration, I make a big deal out of it, and tend to have my imagination run wild with just one thought! But today's prompt, I wanted to think and blog something realistically.
So whats a big dream of mine?
image via
One day, I would absolutely love it, if I got married at my church. I call it my church because I literally grew up in this community, received blessing here from my first baptism to my confirmation.

So it would be amazing to just get married in my church. My community will be apart of it, and better yet, my alter server friends can alter serve in the ceremony, and our long time friend, Manny, can play the piano as I walk down the aisle.

It's a big dream, but I am most certain that Jay will agree to anything I want for our wedding day, when he soon decides to propose.... But one thing at a time!

Whats your big dream? Leave a comment below, or join in on the blogging challenge and leave your post link below as well!
Happy Saturday!
